Szymanski and Seidu Injury Concerns for Rennes Ahead of Lille Clash

Stade Rennais faces uncertainty regarding the availability of key players Sebastian Szymanski and Alidu Seidu for their Ligue 1 match against Lille on Sunday, March 15th. Both players have been dealing with recent injuries, casting doubt on their participation in the crucial European race encounter.

Injury Updates

Sebastian Szymanski sustained a muscle injury during the match against Nice, leading to his substitution at halftime. Alidu Seidu has been experiencing ankle pain. Rennes coach Franck Haise provided an update on their condition, stating that both players only resumed light training on Friday.

“They only resumed today (Friday) with a light session,” Haise conceded. “We will take stock of tomorrow’s (Saturday) session concerning them.”

Potential Replacements

If Szymanski is unable to start, Djaoui Cissé and Ludovic Blas are potential replacements. Cissé previously replaced Szymanski in the Nice match, while Blas made a significant impact coming off the bench on the Côte d’Azur. Haise highlighted Blas’s progress in training, noting he is among the closest to earning a starting position, though he did not specify the position.

Szymanski’s Impact at Rennes

Sebastian Szymanski joined Stade Rennais F.C. In January 2026 as a Polish international known for his goal-scoring and playmaking abilities. The club signed him on a contract extending until 2029, seeking a midfielder with character, pace, and technical quality. Prior to joining Rennes, Szymanski had amassed 60 European matches with 9 goals and 15 assists. His previous clubs include Legia Warsaw, Dynamo Moscow, Feyenoord (on loan), and Fenerbahçe.

At Fenerbahçe, he embraced his role as a technical leader under multiple managers, including José Mourinho and Domenico Tedesco.
