In a conversation with Galatta Plus, Pannu revealed her efforts to encourage directors to move beyond typecasting and embrace more experimental casting decisions.

Pannu highlighted the difficulty in persuading filmmakers to envision her in roles outside of the established expectations. She explained that a significant part of the conversation involves simply convincing directors that she is open to roles where she isn’t the central protagonist or where the narrative doesn’t solely revolve around her character. She also expressed a desire to explore lighter roles, challenging the perception that her involvement automatically necessitates a weighty, issue-driven storyline.

Questioning Repetitive Casting

The actress voiced her concern over the tendency to cast the same actors in similar roles, arguing that it is detrimental to both the actors and the potential for fresh perspectives. “Why would you want to seize the same faces for the same roles?” she questioned, emphasizing that it limits opportunities for actors like herself to showcase their range and experiment with their craft. She believes that directors’ “complacency” leads them to rely on familiar faces and predictable characterizations, resulting in performances that simply reiterate previous work.
