Mmoh Claims Morelos Open Title, Defeats Daniel in Three-Set Final

Morelos, Mexico – Michael Mmoh of the United States secured his eighth Challenger title and his first outside of the United States at the 2026 Morelos Open, defeating Taro Daniel of Japan in a hard-fought three-set final. The match concluded with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The victory marks Mmoh’s first title since winning Challenger events in Fairfield in 2022. Prior to this win, Mmoh had previously claimed Challenger titles in Knoxville (2016 and 2019), Lexington (2017), Columbus (2018), Tiburon (2018), Cary (2022), and Fairfield (2022).

Despite a strong start from Daniel, who took the first set 6-4, Mmoh battled back to secure the championship. The final was a compelling contest, with Mmoh ultimately prevailing after a back-and-forth battle.

“It’s been a very special week, I want to thank all the fans because there has been an excellent atmosphere and I am very grateful,” Mmoh said after receiving the trophy. He also extended congratulations to Daniel, expressing his honor at sharing the court with him.

Currently, Mmoh’s highest career ranking is 119, achieved in 2018. Marc-Andrea Hüsler, the defending champion, lost in the quarterfinals to Tyler Zink.
