Body of Missing Telde Man Found Near Sima de Jinamar
The National Police have located the body of a 76-year-old man from Telde, Gran Canaria, who had been reported missing on February 12th. The discovery was made on Wednesday afternoon in an area close to the Sima de Jinamar.
Search Operation and Discovery
The investigation began after a family member filed a missing person report with the Local Judicial Police Brigade of the Telde Local Police Station. A search operation was immediately launched, involving police officers, family members, neighbors, and emergency services. The search covered various areas within the municipality.
The body was found by the Special Unit of Canine Guides in a rugged area near the Sima de Jinamar, on a dirt and rock road. There were no external signs of violence.
Role of Canine Unit ‘Rony’
The discovery was made possible thanks to ‘Rony’, a dual-breed springer spaniel trained in both substance detection and the search and location of human remains. The police duo has worked together for three years and previously assisted in operations related to severe weather events (Dana).
Specialized Human Remains Detection Units
Currently, only the Madrid and Canary Islands headquarters of the National Police possess the specialized Human Remains Detection (REHU) capability within their Canine Guide Units. This enhances operational capacity for complex investigations.
Ongoing Investigation
The competent judicial authority has taken charge of the proceedings to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. The National Police have expressed their gratitude for the citizen collaboration and the involvement of all those who participated in the search.
