A More Accessible Cybertruck
Tesla’s announcement, made via a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlights the new Cybertruck as “tough as nails with ultra-low cost of ownership.” The base price of $59,990 represents a significant decrease from the previous entry-level all-wheel-drive model, which sold for just under $100,000 in 2024 and is now listed starting at $79,990.1
Key Features of the New Model
The more affordable Cybertruck comes equipped with several key features:
- Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive: Providing enhanced traction and performance.
- Estimated Range: Approximately 325 miles of range.
- Powered Tonneau Cover: Offering secure storage and improved aerodynamics.

Trade-offs and Comparisons
While offering a lower price point, the new Cybertruck variant involves some trade-offs. Its towing capacity is reduced to 7,500 pounds, compared to the 11,000 pounds offered by the “Premium All-Wheel Drive” and “Cyberbeast” models.2 Interior features are also scaled back, with heated seats limited to the first row and textile seats replacing the “premium interiors” found in higher-end versions.

The launch of the more affordable Cybertruck follows a year of modest sales for Tesla’s electric truck. In 2025, Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in the US, according to data from Cox Automotive, which is half of the sales figures from 2024.1 This falls significantly short of Musk’s initial 2023 projection of 250,000 units sold annually.1
