Thailand-Cambodia Tensions Flare Again,Malaysian PM Urges Restraint!

Kuala Lumpur
Prime minister of Malaysia,Anwar Ibrahim, voiced deep concern over the latest clashes between Thailand and Cambodia on the border of the two disputed countries. Anwar called on the two countries to exercise restraint and immediately return to dialog under the ASEAN mechanism.

Anwar, recalling his role as a mediator for a ceasefire between Bangkok and Phnom Penh – wich involved heavy fighting on the border last July – noted that the previous conflict resulted in at least 48 deaths and forced 300,000 people to flee.

The latest clashes broke out over the weekend, with the Thai and Cambodian militaries again trading attacks along the disputed border. In recent times, both countries have accused each other of violating the ceasefire.

Anwar, in his statement as reported by The Star on Monday (December 8, 2025), said that renewed fighting could destabilize the region and undermine ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability. He emphasized the importance of resolving the border dispute through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
