Malaga Court Sentences Man to Eleven Years and Seven Months for Robbery and Attempted Murder
The Malaga Provincial Court has sentenced a man to eleven years and seven months in prison for stabbing and beating an acquaintance in an abandoned house before stealing forty euros and his personal belongings. Europa Press reported that the Section First tribunal handed down eight years for attempted murder and three years and seven months for armed robbery.
Convicted man robbed victim with a knife in Malaga
The convicted man arranged to meet the victim at an abandoned property in a rural district of Malaga under the pretext of exchanging sex for money. Inside the structure, the assailant pulled out a long-bladed knife and demanded a credit card and PIN code. When the victim stated he had only forty euros in his vehicle, the attacker smashed the car windows with the blade and pursued the victim down a path.
The victim managed to disarm the attacker during a struggle and threw the knife into nearby bushes. The attacker fled with the cash, a mobile phone, and the car keys, leaving the victim bleeding in the field.
Medical evaluations cited by the court revealed that the stab wounds posed a lethal risk to vital organs such as the heart and lungs, but the rib cage absorbed the primary force. Magistrates concluded that the murder attempt failed only because the victim survived the initial assault and subsequent abandonment without aid.
During the trial, the defendant claimed he acted in self-defense. The tribunal rejected this argument, noting that the defendant sustained no injuries other than a single bite to the finger, which proved the victim acted solely in defense.
Sentencing Penalties and Financial Restitution
In addition to the eleven-year and seven-month prison term, the court imposed a ten-year restraining order preventing the offender from contacting or approaching the victim. The tribunal ordered the convicted man to pay financial compensation totaling 3,813 euros for physical injuries and 6,500 euros for long-term damages.
