“The King’s Warden” Continues Box Office Reign, Surpasses 15 Million Admissions

Seoul, South Korea – March 25, 2026 – The South Korean historical drama film, “The King’s Warden” (왕과 사는 남자), has officially surpassed 15 million admissions at the Korean box office, solidifying its position as one of the highest-grossing films in the nation’s history. As of today, the film has attracted 14,921,384 viewers, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) KOBIS integrated computer network for movie tickets.

A Historic Achievement

“The King’s Warden” has climbed to third place in the all-time domestic box office rankings, surpassing “Along with the Gods: Crime and Punishment”, which recorded 14.41 million admissions. Only two films remain ahead of it: “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” (17.61 million viewers) and “Extreme Job” (16.26 million viewers).

Record-Breaking Revenue

The film has also broken records in terms of revenue. With a cumulative box office revenue of ₩142.5 billion (approximately $103.8 million USD), “The King’s Warden” has surpassed both “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” (₩135.7 billion) and “Extreme Job” (₩139.6 billion), becoming the highest-grossing Korean film of all time in terms of revenue.

Plot and Cast

Directed by Jang Hang-jun, “The King’s Warden” tells the story of Yi Hong-wi, the teenage king of Joseon, who is overthrown by his uncle and exiled in 1457. The film follows the unlikely relationship between the deposed king and Eom Heung-do, the chief of a village who agrees to shelter him, hoping to bring prosperity to his community. The ensemble cast includes Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae and Jeon Mi-do.

Continued Success

Despite being released on February 4, 2026, “The King’s Warden” continues to attract audiences, maintaining high seat occupancy rates. The recently released sci-fi film, “Project Hail Mary”, starring Ryan Gosling, has not significantly impacted its dominance, securing only second place at the box office upon its release. Industry analysts predict that “The King’s Warden” will likely continue its successful run through early May.
