The cultural ensemble La Rêveuse will present its multidisciplinary production of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale Le Rossignol et l’Empereur de Chine on Tuesday, December 8, at 8:30 PM at the Espace Malraux in Châteaudun, according to the official cultural programming of the City of Châteaudun.

The family-friendly production blends traditional Chinese shadow puppetry, Baroque music, and contemporary creation performed on period instruments. According to the City of Châteaudun, the staging explores humanity’s relationship with the living world through Andersen’s 19th-century narrative about an emperor who chooses a mechanical bird over a real, melodious nightingale. Written during an era before the author ever visited China, the original tale offers contemporary resonance regarding technological replacement in music and human detachment from nature.
The artistic lineup features Cécile Hurbault handling puppet manipulation, alongside musicians Florence Bolton on bass and treble viola da gamba, Benjamin Perrot on theorbo and Baroque guitar, and Kôske Nozaki on flutes and bird flageolets, as detailed by the City of Châteaudun.
