New details on the investigation of the deaths in the area of the former “Petrohan” hut and near Mount Okolchitsa.
From the conclusions of the forensic medical examinations, it is clear that the death of Plamen Statev was caused by a shot with a firearm fired at point blank range. Regarding Decho Vasilev, the investigators indicate that the fatal shot was fired from close range and it is possible that he ended his own life. Traces of gunpowder particles were found on the right hand of both.
The forensic examination of the third man – Ivaylo Ivanov, whose body was found in the area of the former “Petrohan” hut, is still not ready.
New data also appeared about 15-year-old Alexander and 22-year-old Nikolay Zlatkov, whose bodies were found in a camper near Mount Okolchitsa. The information collected so far shows that traces of gunpowder particles were found on the hands of Zlatkov and Kalushev, while there were none on the hands of the minor boy. In practice, this means that the only thing certain at this point is that 15-year-old Alexander did not shoot.
The examinations of Plamen and Decho also show traces suggesting that they lit a fire. According to the prosecutor’s office, Plamen’s eyebrows and beard were burned, but there were no burns on the hairy part of the head and no thermal burns on the face – something characteristic of people who caused a fire or ignited leaked fuel. Decho was found to have burns on his wrists and palms, probably caused by the ignition of an incendiary liquid covering his hands.
The prosecutor’s office also reported that “mandatory meditations, mantras and other practices were practiced in the closed community.” Data on the permanent presence of minors both in a property in Mexico and in various places in Bulgaria are also confirmed. Witness statements contain allegations of sexual contacts of an adult man with minors and underage boys.
In an interview with the investigative site Bird, Valeri Andreev said that about 15 years ago, when he was a minor, his mother left him in the care of Kalushev. He lives with him in the village of Kraevo and claims that illegally owned weapons were hidden in the house. They later went to Mexico, and according to him, life there was sponsored by various people, including his mother. Andreev claims that the funds amounted to over one million BGN and were controlled by Ivo with the help of Deyan.
According to the media, it was Deyan who called 112 about the three bodies found in the Petrokhan area. He is married to a Mexican woman and lives in Bulgaria. Posts on social media show that the two own a house in Mexico, built about a year and a half ago, that they rent out for spiritual retreats, yoga practices, ceremonies and remote work.
Andreev also claims that in 2022 he filed a report with the GDBOP against Kalushev, in which he described his experience, including sexual contacts made when he was a minor. According to him, before the first sexual contact, numerous sessions were held, aimed at suggesting “previous lives” and relationships between the participants, “lives in which I am a woman and in which I have relationships with some of them.” Andreev also says that before having sexual contact with Kalushev, he told him that he had doubts about whether he was gay.
We asked the Ministry of the Interior what action was taken on Andreev’s reports from 2022 to the present and whether the prosecutor’s office was notified. The department responded that “the current political and professional leadership is not directly related to the work on a signal received in February 2022.” It is also stated that the resigned Minister of the Interior, Daniel Mitov, has ordered a full check of all data and signals, which has not yet been completed, bTV reported.
