Therese Johaug Will Not Compete in Birken – Focuses on Training Camp

Therese Johaug, the former cross-country skiing queen, will not participate in this year’s Birkebeinerrennet, her manager Jørn Ernst confirmed on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Instead, Johaug will attend a training camp with her training concept, Johaug Recharge, in Fuerteventura.

Recent Considerations and Post-Natal Recovery

Johaug gave birth to her son, Nils, in early January. She had previously expressed uncertainty about her ability to compete in the race, stating in the podcast Gukild & Johaug that her body didn’t feel ready for the challenge after skiing recently. She acknowledged her desire to participate but emphasized the need to listen to her body and prioritize smart training.

Focus on Future Goals

While Johaug won’t be on the start line for Birken, she is maintaining her fitness and looking ahead to future athletic endeavors. She aims to compete in the Copenhagen half marathon in September, with a goal of completing the race in 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Recent Activity

Johaug recently served as an expert on NRK during the Winter Olympics in Italy.
