Threads Expands Sports Coverage with Live MLB Scores

Threads, Meta’s text-based social media platform, is expanding its sports offerings with the addition of live Major League Baseball (MLB) scores. This move comes after a successful pilot program featuring live National Basketball Association (NBA) scores, as the platform aims to compete directly with X (formerly Twitter) in the realm of real-time sports updates.

Expanding Beyond the NBA

Launched initially with live NBA scores in March, Threads’ live scores feature has proven popular with users. Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced the expansion to MLB on Thursday, February 20, 2026, via a post on Threads [Source: The Sun]. The live scores are prominently displayed at the top of the application when a team is searched.

A Competitive Move

X, previously known as Twitter, has offered live sports scores since 2014. Threads’ introduction of this feature is a direct response to X’s established presence in providing real-time sports information. Mosseri also indicated plans to further expand the live scores feature to include more sports and leagues in the future [Source: The Sun]. He specifically requested feedback from the “growing Baseball Threads community” to refine the feature.

How to Access MLB Scores on Threads

Users can access live MLB scores by simply searching for their favorite teams within the Threads application. The scores will appear at the top of the search results, providing up-to-the-minute updates during games.
