Lando Norris shattered his champagne bottle on the podium at the São Paulo Grand Prix after winning the race by a 14.6-second margin over Max Verstappen, RacingNews365 reported.
The McLaren driver kept his cool in treacherous, wet conditions at Interlagos to secure his third victory of the season.
Norris started from pole position and capitalized on trouble for Kimi Antonelli to convert his advantage into a race win.
Behind the leading pair, Hadjar finished third, crossing the line 24.4 seconds behind the winner, according to F1Head. Verstappen mounted a charge from 21st on the grid after taking a 30-place engine penalty to claim second place.
After receiving his trophy and listening to the British national anthem, Norris attempted his usual victory celebration by striking the champagne bottle on the podium floor. F1Head reported that he hit the bottle too hard, causing it to shatter into pieces.
The incident left the driver momentarily startled as glass flew around the podium. Norris ultimately emerged uninjured from the mishap. This marks his second podium champagne incident, following a similar occurrence after the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix when the bottle was struck too close to Max Verstappen’s winner’s trophy and broke it.
The victory moves Norris to sixth in the Drivers’ Championship with 246 points. Verstappen holds second place in the standings with 279 points.
F1Head reported that just three races remain on the 2024 Formula 1 calendar. The championship fight now heads to the United States for the upcoming Grand Prix of Las Vegas.
