Los Angeles Golf Club Claims Inaugural TGL Championship Title
The Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) secured the 2026 TGL Championship crown, defeating Jupiter Links GC in a two-match sweep at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This victory marks the first championship for LAGC in the young league’s history.
Tiger Woods’ Return Not Enough for Jupiter Links
Despite the highly anticipated return of Tiger Woods to competitive golf, Jupiter Links was unable to overcome the strong play of LAGC. Woods, playing his first competitive round in months, hoped to build momentum ahead of the 2026 Masters Tournament, but his efforts weren’t enough to prevent a decisive loss.
Woods’ Performance and Frustration
Woods played in Match 2, replacing Kevin Kisner in the Jupiter Links lineup. While his swing showed flashes of his former brilliance, a missed 3-foot putt on the seventh hole proved pivotal, shifting momentum in favor of LAGC. “We got our ass kicked at the end… We didn’t respond, and I missed a short one at the beginning to kind of get it started, give them momentum, and never got it back,” Woods stated after the match. He even jokingly blamed his missed putt for Akshay Bhatia’s absence from the team, saying, “He probably would have made that two-footer that I missed.”
LAGC’s Dominant Performance
LAGC maintained a consistent lineup throughout both matches, featuring Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and Sahith Theegala. After winning the first match 6-5 on Monday, they dominated Match 2 with a 9-2 victory, sealing the championship. Fleetwood and Rose were instrumental in keeping the team composed during an early deficit, according to Rose.
Key Moments in Match 2
Theegala’s performance on the sixth hole, known as “Stinger,” was crucial. LAGC threw down the Hammer, and Theegala secured a birdie, tying the match. Later, a missed putt by Woods on the 250-yard par-3 “Cenote” gave LAGC a lead they would not relinquish. LAGC ultimately closed out the match with three consecutive eagles.
Looking Ahead
With the TGL season concluded, all eyes now turn to the 2026 Masters Tournament. Woods has indicated his continued commitment to preparing for the tournament, but has not yet confirmed his participation. He acknowledged the challenges of recovery, stating, “This body… it doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25.” He will continue practicing and playing at home in the coming weeks.
