German E-Commerce Adapts to TikTok Shop Growth

TikTok Shop has reached nearly one in five online shoppers in Germany since its March 2025 launch, according to data published by omr.com. Nielsen IQ reported that penetration reached that threshold by mid-August 2026, while analysis from feed-management provider Lengow placed the Gross Merchandise Volume at 175 million euros in the second quarter of 2026. Karolin Junker de Neui, managing director at digital consultancy Etribes, noted to omr.com that the platform merges entertainment and transactions in a way previous digital channels failed to achieve. Karolin Junker de Neui also stated that the affiliate model is the major lever at TikTok Shop.

Family Businesses Tap Creator Affiliates for Scale

For Munich-based Georgios Papazof Feinkost GmbH, entering TikTok Shop in April 2025 transformed the business. Stephanos Papazof told omr.com that a single video from a content creator generated roughly 250 orders overnight. Since then, analytics tool Fastmoss estimated the shop generated around 1.1 million euros in revenue since the end of June 2025. Stephanos Papazof sells the 5-liter canister of olive oil in his own online shop as well. Why someone spontaneously buys five liters of olive oil in an entertainment app is a question that arises. Papazof attributes the rapid conversion to detailed product descriptions that give creators clear storytelling hooks.

Other merchants bypass paid advertising entirely, relying instead on affiliate networks. Mike Caruso and Teresa Fuoco, founders of the Brudi Duftmanufaktur, generated 660,000 euros via TikTok Shop out of roughly 800,000 euros in total revenue up to late September 2026, omr.com reported. Because the name appeals to a rather narrow target group, the two are currently rebranding, as people simply called them “Brudi” and “Brudi” is changing to Lubu, the abbreviation of their hometown Ludwigsburg, while the community supplied the name. Suhaib Mala, managing director of the agency Scaletok, manages their affiliate roster by filtering out low-quality content and targeting smaller accounts with about 1,500 followers. Suhaib Mala mentions 20 creator videos per week as the minimum as a benchmark for new brands, 50 as a good level, and around 200 at the peak.

Creator Dominance and Low Margins Shape the Market

Data from analytics tool Kalodata indicates that in the second quarter of 2026, 73,8 percent of TikTok Shop revenue in Germany came through affiliates, with the ten largest shops reaching 93,5 percent. Conversely, brands like Candypeak rely on their own content output to manage operations. Despite rapid sales growth, industry experts warn that high turnover does not guarantee strong profit margins. Expenses from promotional discounts and creator payouts leave merchants with tight margins, creating financial risks for businesses that scale too aggressively without calculating net returns.
