Golden Globes 2026: Notable Stars to Miss This Year’s Ceremony

Several prominent figures in the entertainment industry will be absent from the 2026 Golden Globes ceremony, prioritizing other professional commitments. Despite nominations, Cynthia Erivo, Ricky Gervais, and Carrie Coon will not be in attendance.

Cynthia Erivo, nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Film (Musical or Comedy) for her role in the highly anticipated Wicked – Part 2, is currently engaged in a demanding theatrical role in London’s production of Dracula. Erivo undertakes the extraordinary feat of portraying 23 different characters within the play, including the titular vampire. Ariana Grande will represent Wicked – Part 2 at the Globes, having been nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais, nominated for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance for Mortality, has expressed his reluctance to travel to Los Angeles for the event. In a recent interview on BBC Radio 4’s ‘This cultural life’ program, Gervais stated a preference for remaining at home with his girlfriend and cat, enjoying Netflix and focusing on his writing and stand-up work.

Carrie Coon, recognized with a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The White Lotus, is unable to attend due to her commitments to a Broadway production of Bug.

These absences highlight the competing demands on actors’ schedules and the dedication required to balance film, television, and stage work.
