Indonesian Military Investigates Alleged Involvement in Acid Attack on Human Rights Activist

Jakarta – The Indonesian Military (TNI) has launched an internal investigation into the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS (Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence), following public concerns about potential involvement of military personnel. The investigation was announced on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Responding to Public Scrutiny

Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, Head of the TNI Information Center, stated the military will examine any alleged participation of its members in the attack. “We will investigate the alleged involvement of TNI personnel,” he said at the TNI Media Center in Jakarta. Tempo.co reports that Aulia emphasized the investigation is a response to growing public scrutiny and aims to prevent the spread of unverified information.

Transparency and Professionalism

The TNI has pledged to conduct the inquiry professionally and transparently, involving multiple units. “We will carry it out professionally, without rushing, and in accordance with TNI regulations,” Aulia said, adding that journalists would be allowed to report on the findings. Broader Investigation Requested

Meanwhile, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), representing Andrie Yunus, has urged the police to investigate a potential broader systematic pattern behind the attack. He believes the attack was highly coordinated, with assigned roles for surveillance and execution, and called for the identification of the mastermind. Tempo.co detailed these concerns.

Police Investigation Underway

The Polda Metro Jaya has traced four suspected perpetrators as of March 16, 2026, according to Tempo.co. Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, Director of General Criminal Investigation, is leading the investigation.

National Police Commitment

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also emphasized the National Police’s commitment to resolving the case, stating he received direct orders from President Prabowo to conduct a thorough investigation using scientific methods. Tempo.co reported on this commitment.
