Actors Tom Burke and Eve Hewson are set to star in a new film written and directed by Lenny Abrahamson, known for his work on Room and Normal People. The film, currently untitled, will be set within Dublin’s Jewish community in the late 1970s and is slated to begin shooting on March 2nd in Dublin.

A Story of Adolescence and Family Dynamics

The film centers around Davey, a 12-year-old boy navigating the challenges of adolescence alongside the changing dynamics within his parents’ marriage. Newcomer Shane Meagher will portray Davey in what is described as a “lyrical and emotionally resonant portrait” of his experiences. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the casting and setting details.

Lenny Abrahamson is reuniting with Element Pictures, the production company behind Normal People and Conversations with Friends, for this project. Producers include Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures (a Fremantle company), Catherine Magee, and Abrahamson himself. The film will also feature a familiar creative team, including production designer Anna Rackard, director of photography Suzie Lavelle, editor Nathan Nugent, make-up designer Sonia Dolan, and composer Stephen Rennicks. Costume designer Eimer ní Mhaoldomhnaigh and hair stylist Orla Carroll, both known for their work on The Banshees of Inisherin, are also on board. Variety confirms these key crew members.

Tom Burke is known for his role as Cormoran Strike in the BBC series Strike, as well as appearances in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and The Souvenir. Eve Hewson’s recent credits include Flora and Son, The Perfect Couple, and Bad Sisters, and she is set to appear in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, which will be released in June. RTÉ highlights Hewson’s upcoming role in the Spielberg film.

A24 will distribute the film in the U.S., with Elevation Pictures handling distribution in Canada, and FilmNation Entertainment managing international sales.
