While posing for photographs with Bernthal and host Sean Evans immediately after wrapping the challenge, Holland began coughing before vomiting on the floor. Bernthal reacted by encouraging the moment for the cameras, according to the broadcast, telling the crew to take a picture and noting that Holland had kept his clothes clean.
“Has anybody puked before?” Bernthal asked Evans, according to the episode transcript. Evans replied that the incident might be the first on-set occurrence in the history of the show, to which Holland quipped that he loved being the first.

Holland provided additional context regarding the episode during an appearance on the NYT Cooking series alongside Odyssey co-star Matt Damon. The actor admitted that the main factor wasn’t just the capsaicin from the wings, but the sheer volume of dairy he consumed to cope with the heat.
“Jon Bernthal and I did Hot Ones the other day. I fully vomited on camera,” Holland told the NYT Cooking series. “It was also pure milk. Because I’d been nailing the milk.”
