Romo, who has competed in plenty of tournaments over the years, was scheduled to play in the tournament and participate in a scheduled Q&A session before host course Cascades Country Club announced his withdrawal on July 27, 2026.

The Cascades Country Club confirmed that Tony Romo would not compete in the 56th M&P Group Texas State Open, an annual tournament where he regularly makes an appearance. According to local station KLTV, course representatives stated, “Although we’re disappointed he won’t be joining us, we’re still looking forward to an exciting week of competitive golf.” A scheduled Q&A session featuring Romo, which was slated for a Monday appearance at the event, was also scrapped by organizers following the tournament withdrawal.
Wisconsin Arrest Details and Prior Golf Performance
The tournament withdrawal comes days after Romo was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence. According to law enforcement records, officers pulled Romo over on a high-rise bridge heading southbound on I-43. Police stated that Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests administered at the scene before being taken into custody. Just prior to the traffic stop, Romo had finished competing at the 125th Wisconsin Amateur Championship, where he finished 35-over par.

While best known for his lengthy career with the Dallas Cowboys, Romo is often found on the golf course.
