Trump and Saudi Arabia: Money Over Morality

Tens of billions of dollars attract Donald Trump. During his first term, the US President made his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia, participating in local traditions and overseeing $500 billion in arms sales. He continued this pattern by welcoming Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the White House in his second term, offering praise and securing Saudi investment commitments in the USA worth $400 billion to $1 trillion.

trump’s focus on money drives his actions as a leader. He seems willing to ignore even serious crimes. It’s troubling how easily Trump dismisses the findings of US intelligence agencies, which believe the Crown Prince is responsible for the murder and dismemberment of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump downplays this: his state guest claims he had no knowledge of the murder of the Washington Post columnist, who was killed and dismembered by Saudi agents in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Protecting citizens? Human rights? Freedom of the press? These things don’t matter. Only billion-dollar deals, new arms sales, and the possibility of selling US nuclear power plants to Saudi Arabia are important.
