Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has offered the White House press secretary position to Dana White, the chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, according to posts on Truth Social reported by El Mundo. The proposal arrives just days after a severe defeat for Republicans in the midterm elections, leaving the tone of the announcement open to question regarding its seriousness.

The proposed roster of non-American fighters includes Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris. “We need these people to defend us from the lunatic left,” Trump wrote, adding a direct plea for the executive to accept the role.

Shortest-Serving Press Secretary Ousted Before Democratic Midterm Sweep

The press secretary post has remained vacant since October 16, 2026, when Katie Zacharia was dismissed after serving just five days due to poor performance, making her the shortest-serving official in that role, El Mundo noted. Last Tuesday’s midterm elections functioned as a referendum on the administration, resulting in a sweeping victory for the Democratic opposition.

Democrats seized control of both chambers of Congress, capturing the House and Senate while securing historic wins in Republican strongholds such as Texas, Iowa, and Kansas. This shift leaves the Republican Party in a difficult political position looking ahead to the 2028 presidential race.

Trump Proposes a Halt to Insults Toward Democrats

Alongside the press secretary announcement, Trump indicated a willingness to drop personal insults directed at Democrats to secure legislative deals with the new congressional majority. In a preview clip from an interview with the program 60 Minutes broadcast on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s full CBS News airing, Trump spoke with interviewer Ross Douthat about his campaign rhetoric.

During the campaign, Trump mocked Texas state senator-elect James Talarico with the nickname “Talafreako” and repeatedly referred to Democrats as “dumbrocats.” When asked during the interview if he would halt such insults for six months to reach agreements with the new majority, Trump answered that he could do so “very easily.”
