Turkish Medical Congress Unveils Domestic Cancer Kits and Tech
Domestic cancer detection kits and medical hardware dominated the 12th Turkish Medical Congress at Tersane Istanbul, where officials announced tools aimed at lowering treatment costs and boosting early diagnosis. Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu attended the opening of the event, which also hosted international health ministers, Hürriyet reported.
Minister Memişoğlu stated that domestic production has already supplied respiratory devices to 45 countries and automatic shock devices to 18 nations, alongside the rollout of domestic hepatitis and chickenpox vaccines. During the congress, the Türkiye Health Institutes Presidency (TÜSEB) highlighted three new diagnostic and treatment kits slated for public hospital integration by the first half of 2027.
HerediTR Kit Targets 15 Cancer Types Before Symptoms Appear
TÜSEB cancer researcher Doç. Dr. Demet Akdeniz Ödemiş explained that the newly developed HerediTR kit analyzes a 34-gene structural panel using a single tube of blood to estimate risks for 15 distinct cancer types, including breast, lung, prostate, pancreas, and colorectal cancers. The test focuses on familial genetic transitions, which account for roughly 10 percent of all cancers, allowing physicians to establish preventative plans before tumors form.
Complementing HerediTR, the OncoTR panel examines 690 to 691 genetic regions to map a patient’s tumor profile. Prof. Dr. Burak Civelek, President of the Türkiye Cancer Institute, stated that this software-supported genomic profiling identifies whether patients will benefit from specific immunotherapies or targeted drugs, minimizing side effects while guiding personalized treatment regimens.

Frequently Asked Questions About Turkey’s New Cancer Tech
Which hospitals will first offer the HerediTR and OncoTR kits?
According to TÜSEB researchers, the kits will launch in the first half of 2027 primarily at city hospitals, education and research hospitals, and university medical centers designated by the Ministry of Health.
How many genes does the OncoTR genomic profile analyze?
Prof. Dr. Burak Civelek stated that the OncoTR kit evaluates between 690 and 691 distinct genetic regions to build a comprehensive tumor map for targeted drug and immunotherapy planning.
