UFC Women’s Rising Stars: Next Generation Talent

The Next Generation of UFC Women’s Talent

More than 13 years after the first women’s fight in the Octagon, the UFC’s women’s divisions are more dynamic than ever, continuing to develop history. Earlier this month, the UFC inducted its first women’s fight – the strawweight title bout between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jędrzejczyk – into the Hall of Fame . With the talent currently on the roster, even greater accomplishments are anticipated.

Rising Stars in the UFC Women’s Divisions

While established stars like Valentina Shevchenko and Amanda Nunes have set a high standard, a fresh wave of fighters is poised to challenge their records and create iconic moments.

Erin Blanchfield

Erin Blanchfield of New Jersey has rapidly developed into one of the best flyweights in the world since joining the UFC in July 2021. Boasting an 8-1 record in the Octagon, Blanchfield has secured wins over former champions like Jéssica Andrade and Rose Namajunas . At 26 years old, Blanchfield continues to refine her overall game and aims to compete for a championship title within the next year or two.

Fatima Kline

Fatima Kline, a training partner of Blanchfield, entered the promotion in July 2024, initially competing in a weight class above her own. This opportunity allowed her to establish herself in the strawweight division in 2025 .

The Evolution of Women’s MMA

Women’s mixed martial arts has seen significant growth since its early days. Japan pioneered female competition in the mid-1990s, with promotions like Smackgirl, Valkyrie and DEEP Jewels . In the United States, organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Invicta Fighting Championships, Bellator Fighting Championships, and Resurrection Fighting Alliance now feature women’s divisions . The inclusion of female fighters in the UFC, largely driven by the popularity of Ronda Rousey, is credited with bringing women’s MMA into the mainstream . Rousey’s success, including winning the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2015, further elevated the sport .

Notable figures like Amanda Nunes, Megumi Fujii, Gina Carano, Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, Alexa Grasso, and Joanna Jędrzejczyk have likewise played pivotal roles in the sport’s development .
