Russian Drone Attacks Intensify Across Western Ukraine
Russian forces launched a widespread drone attack targeting multiple regions across western Ukraine on March 24, 2026, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure, including UNESCO World Heritage sites. The attacks impacted Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia, with air defenses actively engaged throughout the day.
Lviv Under Attack
Lviv experienced significant damage as drones struck residential buildings in several areas, including the city center. At least 17 people were reported injured as of 7:23 PM local time, according to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovoy. Firefighters are working to extinguish fires and prepare residents for relocation.
The attack also damaged the Ensemble of the Bernardine Monastery, an architectural monument of national importance and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Damage to critical infrastructure was also reported in the Komarnovskaya and Dobrosinsk-Magerovskaya communities. Fires broke out in residential buildings on Cathedral Square and Krasnaya Kalyna Street, and a private house in the village of Serniki, Bibra territorial community, was also affected by falling drone debris.
Casualties Reported in Other Regions
Ivano-Frankivsk suffered two fatalities and four injuries, including a child, as a result of the drone strikes. Damage was reported to a maternity hospital, though officials stated that everyone inside was safe and receiving assistance. One of the deceased was a National Guardsman who had recently become a father.
In Vinnytsia, one person was killed and 11 others were injured. Six of the injured were hospitalized, while five received medical care as outpatients.
Explosions were also reported in Ternopil, and a 12-year-old girl was injured in Zhytomyr after a residential building was damaged.
Widespread Attack
The attacks encompassed almost all western regions of Ukraine, excluding Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, and most of Volhynia. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched 556 drones during the day, with 541 intercepted or suppressed. Despite these interceptions, multiple strikes hit targets across the country.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay in shelters and refrain from posting photos or videos from the scene, as such information could be exploited by the enemy.
