Gangwon Province Hosts Successful 107th National Winter Sports Festival
Gangwon Province recently concluded its hosting of the 107th National Winter Sports Festival, held from February 25th to 28th. The event saw participation from 86 athletes representing Ulsan City, who secured a total of 10 medals: one gold, five silver, and four bronze, demonstrating the city’s growing strength in winter sports.
Ulsan City’s Performance Highlights
The Ulsan City team competed across six disciplines – skiing, ice skating, curling, mountaineering, luge, and ice hockey – showcasing a diverse range of talent. Alpine skiing proved to be a particularly strong suit for the team.
Alpine Skiing Success
Kim Dong-woo, representing the Ulsan Ski Association, achieved a gold medal in the men’s regular super-G event. He further added to his medal count with bronze medals in slalom, giant slalom, and combined events, totaling four medals. Park Seo-yoon, a member of the national team preparing for the 2026 Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics and a student at Korea National Sport University, earned a silver medal in the women’s general division super-G. Lee Jang-woo (Ulsan Ski Association) too contributed with silver medals in the men’s general slalom and combined events.
Luge Achievements
The silver medal success extended to luge, with Park Seo-hyun (women’s under-18 division) and Kim Bo-geun (men’s general division, Ulsan Luge Federation) both securing second place in their respective single-man events.
Curling Bronze
The Ulsan Curling Association team, comprised of Lee Min-soo, Choi Jeong-wook, Noh Jae-bin, Kwon Nam-jun, and Choi Kang-yoon, won a bronze medal in the men’s general division after a competitive semifinal match against Gyeongbuk Uiseong County Office.
Other Disciplines and Rising Talent
Jinsu Park and Jaeyoung Cho (Ulsan Mountaineering Federation) competed in the men’s general mountain ice climbing lead event but did not advance to the semifinals. Younger athletes also gained valuable experience, including skiers Na Ji-hwan, short track skater Su-ah Park, figure skater Kim A-hyeon, and the Ulsan Dolphins ice hockey team (12 and under). Anu Choi, representing Okdong Middle School, demonstrated potential in ski freestyle (moguls), placing third in the middle school boys’ division during the demonstration event.
