Umberto Tozzi Announces Final Shows and Novel Musical, ‘Gloria’
Italian music icon Umberto Tozzi is embarking on a farewell tour, “L’ULTIMA NOTTE ROSA – THE FINAL SHOW,” following a career spanning over 50 years, more than 80 million records sold, and over 2,000 concerts worldwide.
Farewell Tour and a New Beginning
After an emotional sold-out event, La Grande Festa, at the Arena di Verona in October 2025, Tozzi will perform twelve final concerts – seven in Italy and five in Europe – marking the end of his live performances. Although, this isn’t a complete end to his musical legacy. Tozzi is also working on a new project: a musical titled Gloria.
‘Gloria’ – A New Stage for Tozzi’s Music
Gloria – The Musical, set to premiere in October 2026, will be the first musical dedicated to Tozzi’s repertoire. With music and musical direction by Tozzi himself, the musical tells the story of Gloria, a young woman determined to become a singer, set to the backdrop of his iconic songs. The musical will debut in Milan (October 23 – November 1, 2026), followed by performances in Rome (December 16, 2026 – January 10, 2027) and Bologna (January 22 – 24, 2027).
The Search for Gloria
Tozzi revealed to La Stampa that he has been auditioning performers for the role of Gloria, having listened to over 600 hopefuls. He is also involved in selecting the cast for all other roles, noting the difficulty of making choices from a wealth of talent. The musical is described as a romantic story incorporating twenty to twenty-one of Tozzi’s songs, but is not a simple “jukebox musical,” as three authors have crafted a narrative that gives new life and emotional depth to his work.
A Semi-Autobiographical Story
The story centers around a young woman pursuing her dream of becoming a singer, facing opposition from those around her, a theme Tozzi relates to his own life. He shared with La Stampa that his father desired a stable job for him, but Tozzi pursued his passion for music, picking up a guitar and forging his own path.
