University of Guanajuato Campus León Holds Nutrition Conferences

Students at the University of Guanajuato Campus León studying nutrition recently gathered for the 4th Academic Conferences of the Nutrition Bachelor’s Degree, held under the motto “Construyendo salud desde el autocuidado.” Organized by full-time nutrition professors Dr. María del Pilar Fernández Carrasco and Dr. María Montserrat López Ortiz, the program aimed to inform the student community about essential topics regarding integral health, self-care, and prevention.

The academic event forms part of the integral formation provided to the student body at Campus León to enrich their knowledge in practical areas fundamental for a full university life, while helping to broaden their tools and learnings for life.

AI Tools Cannot Replace Professional Mental Health Care

The opening conference, titled “Cuidado de la salud mental en la era de la IA,” was delivered by Mtro. Edgar Daniel Páramo Castillo, a university professor and specialist in psychological emergency care. His presentation focused on understanding frequent problems students experience during university life and providing tools on how to act when situations affect themselves or others. The session addressed artificial intelligence tools as basic orientation that cannot replace professional care, warning that AI can foster isolation or misinterpretations of emotional states. Mtro. Páramo encouraged students to strengthen close bonds, seek support, and keep crisis hotline numbers accessible.

The program continued with a talk titled “Menstruación digna,” led by Licda. Daniela Verenice Ortega Cosío, Coordinator of Training and Outreach for the Institutional Program for Gender Equality (UGénero). Licda. Daniela explained the stages and development of the menstrual cycle, addressing how misinterpretations generate taboos, myths, and misinformation that limit and discriminate against menstruating individuals. The talk sought to demystify incorrect concepts and inform students about practices for living the menstrual cycle consciously to promote wellbeing.

Commander Servín Villegas Shares Security and Self-Defense Recommendations

To conclude the lecture block, Commander Mónico Servín Villegas, Director of Discipline at the León Metropolitan Academy of Public Security (AMSPLG), shared recommendations to help students avoid conflicts and everyday risks. Commander Servín Villegas defined integral security through protection, coordination, and organization, emphasizing that prevention and self-security form the primary defense line for citizens. A question-and-answer session followed, addressing self-defense, digital security, and traffic accident prevention.

The day concluded in the Health Patio with a self-defense exhibition where cadets from the AMSPLG demonstrated self-protection techniques and risk-management strategies.
