Mayo Clinic Earns Top Global Ranking
The best answers often come when teams of experts use technology to bring different perspectives together, make better decisions and find answers sooner,
said Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., Mayo Clinic president and CEO, after Mayo Clinic in Rochester secured the No. 1 position in the World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2027 ranking published by Newsweek. The evaluation reviews medical facilities worldwide to measure how effectively hospitals integrate digital solutions, artificial intelligence, and robotics into clinical workflows. Mayo Clinic’s latest achievement builds on its broader recognition across the healthcare sector, including holding the top spot in Newsweek’s global hospital rankings for eight consecutive years and earning placement on the U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-27 Best Hospitals Honor Roll.
Evaluating Digital Maturity Across Thirty-Three Countries
The World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2027 assessment recognizes 410 leading medical facilities across 33 countries. Statista determines the final scores through a methodology anchored by three primary pillars. International and national online surveys of hospital managers and healthcare professionals account for 67.5% of the total score, giving greater weight to cross-border recommendations from medical experts. The Statista Smart Hospitals Digital Maturity Survey provides 30% of the score by assessing implementation and usage of digital technologies in the hospital. Finally, digital healthcare-related accreditations and certifications account for 2.5% of the scoring model, recognizing facilities that meet recognized international standards in technology-enabled clinical excellence.
Minnesota Facilities Recognized in Global List
While Mayo Clinic anchors the international assessment at the very top, other regional facilities also appear in the published evaluation. Abbott Northwestern earned the No. 74 spot in the global standings, and Cambridge Medical Center secured the No. 401 position, according to data covered by FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul.
