US Conducts Extensive Strikes Against Iran, CENTCOM Reports
Washington D.C. – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a series of strikes against targets within Iran over the past 72 hours, including attacks on ballistic missile launchers and Iranian Space Command facilities. The operations approach amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following recent joint US-Israel attacks on Iran.
CENTCOM Commander Details Recent Operations
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, stated that US bombing forces have struck nearly 200 targets deep inside Iran, including locations around the capital, Tehran [1]. He further reported that B-2 bombers were deployed to drop dozens of 2,000-pound penetrator bombs targeting deeply buried ballistic missile launchers.
“In the last 72 hours alone, American bombing forces have struck nearly 200 targets deep inside Iran, including around Tehran,” Cooper said at a conference at CENTCOM headquarters in Tampa, Florida. “And just in the last hour, US B-2 bombers dropped dozens of 2,000-pound penetrator bombs targeting deeply buried ballistic missile launchers.”
Cooper similarly indicated that attacks on the Iranian Navy are increasing, with over 30 Iranian warships reportedly sunk by US military forces. An Iranian drone carrier was also reported to have caught fire as a result of US attacks.
Reduced Retaliatory Attacks from Iran
According to Cooper, Iran’s retaliatory attacks have decreased significantly since the initial large-scale US-Israel attack on February 28th. Ballistic missile attacks have decreased by 90 percent, and drone attacks have decreased by 83 percent [1]. Despite this reduction, Cooper emphasized that the US military remains vigilant.
Escalating Middle East Tensions
The recent strikes are part of an escalating conflict in the Middle East. The US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28th, targeting missiles, naval assets, and command and control sites. Reports indicate that several significant figures and high-ranking officials in Tehran were killed, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on targets in Israel and US bases in the Gulf states. At least six US soldiers were killed in an Iranian drone attack on a base in Kuwait.
