‘Zootopia 2’ Dominates Thanksgiving Box Office, ‘Wicked’ Falls to Second

Disney’s animated sequel, Zootopia 2, has roared to the top of the Thanksgiving box office, earning an estimated $158 million over the five-day holiday period. Deadline reports this figure surpasses initial projections and positions the film as the second-best Thanksgiving opening of all time.

Box Office Performance

Zootopia 2’s five-day gross reached $158 million, fueled by a strong Sunday performance of $24.5 million, a 32% drop from its Saturday earnings of $35.8 million. The film’s three-day opening weekend brought in $98.8 million. Globally, Zootopia 2 has already amassed $559.5 million. Deadline

In comparison, Universal’s Wicked: For Good earned $90 million over the five-day Thanksgiving stretch. Deadline

Looking Ahead

Disney Animation has another original film, Hexed, slated for release next year. The studio notes that launching original animated films can be challenging without a strong “princess” element, similar to the success of Frozen. Deadline Hexed reportedly centers on a teenage boy and his mother who discover hidden magical abilities and are transported to a world where magic thrives.

Also opening on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, is Universal’s Focker in-Law, the fourth installment in the comedy franchise. Deadline

Leading into Thanksgiving, Lionsgate’s prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, generated significant buzz with 109 million global trailer views within 24 hours. Deadline The previous Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, opened to $44.6 million in 2023 and ultimately grossed $166.3 million domestically.
