The United Soccer League unveiled a new brand identity built around “United for Soccer,” introducing a unified visual system that sets the stage for a three-tier professional men’s structure featuring promotion and relegation by 2028. The updated framework encompasses seven existing leagues and establishes the first official mark for USL Premier.
USL Updates Brand with Soccer Inspired Design
Developed alongside the creative agency Spark, the updated brand incorporates elements of the soccer ball, field, and goal nets to connect leagues, clubs, and communities. The organization introduced a shared design inspired by woven goal nets across eight marks, anchored by a redesigned central USL mark. This central logo utilizes the geometry of a traditional soccer ball, featuring an upward stair-step shape within the letter “S” to symbolize progress and competitive pathways.
“We believe American soccer is stronger when more communities have clubs to call their own, more players have opportunities to advance and competition rewards performance on the field,” Paul McDonough, President and CEO of the United Soccer League, said in a statement. The organization currently spans men’s and women’s professional and youth competitions across more than 200 communities in 45 states.
Restructuring the Men’s Professional Tier for 2028
The visual overhaul aligns with operational changes for the league’s men’s professional division. Beginning in 2028, USL Premier launches as the top tier of a three-tier pyramid. It will operate alongside the USL Championship and USL League One, introducing promotion and relegation so clubs can shift between divisions based on performance.
“We wanted our brand to represent both who the USL has become and where we’re going,” Valerie Panou, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the United Soccer League, said. “We’ve built something significant across our leagues and communities, but we haven’t always told that story as one organization.”
Corporate Identity Rollout Precedes 2028 Premier Division Launch
The transition to the new corporate identity is scheduled to unfold across multiple phases. The league office plans to share additional creative assets and storytelling elements throughout the remainder of 2026. The rollout across its leagues and channels will officially take place in 2027, preceding the 2028 launch of the USL Premier division.
