UTSA Snaps 17-Game Losing Streak with Thrilling Comeback Victory Over Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UTSA Roadrunners (5-20, 1-12 American Athletic Conference) ended a grueling 17-game losing streak with a remarkable comeback victory over the Charlotte 49ers (13-12, 7-5 AAC) on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Dale F. Halton Arena. UTSA secured an 88-79 win after outscoring Charlotte 31-9 in the final 8:38 of the game.

Roadrunners Overcome Double-Digit Deficit

Trailing 70-57 with under eight minutes remaining, UTSA mounted a furious rally, fueled by clutch shooting and tenacious defense. The Roadrunners’ resilience was on full display against a Charlotte team that entered the game tied for third in the AAC standings.

First Half Battle

The first half saw a back-and-forth battle, with Charlotte initially taking a 12-4 lead thanks to early three-pointers from Arden Conyers. UTSA responded with a 9-0 run, tying the game at 16-16. The Roadrunners briefly took the lead, going up 21-16, but the teams continued to trade baskets, resulting in five lead changes and five ties over a six-minute stretch. Charlotte closed the half strong, building a six-point lead, 44-38, after a late push led by Ben Bradford and Major Freeman.

Second Half Surge and Victory

Charlotte extended their lead to 13 points early in the second half. However, UTSA refused to fold. A three-pointer from Mathéo Coffi sparked the Roadrunners’ comeback, followed by a dunk from Brent Moss. Continued pressure and forced turnovers led to a 20-0 run, giving UTSA a 77-70 advantage. The Roadrunners sealed the victory by going 13-of-14 from the free-throw line in the second half.

Balanced Scoring Attack

UTSA showcased a balanced scoring attack, with six players reaching double figures. Jamir Simpson led the way with 20 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high seven assists. Brent Moss and Baboucarr Njie each added 16 points, while Daniel Akitoby contributed 12, and Kaidon Rayfield scored 11 points on a career-best 3-for-4 shooting from three-point range.

Efficient Performance

The Roadrunners finished the game shooting 48.4% from the field and an impressive 90% (18-of-20) from the free-throw line. They also capitalized on 13 Charlotte turnovers, scoring 24 points off those possessions. UTSA committed only three turnovers throughout the entire game.

UTSA will return to the Convocation Center on Wednesday, February 18, to host a rematch with Florida Atlantic for Student Appreciation Night. They will then travel to Tulsa to face the Golden Hurricane on Sunday at the Reynolds Center.
