Milan Launches World’s First UX Design School for Children

Milan is now home to the world’s first User Experience (UX) Design school specifically designed for children aged 7 to 13. UXforKids School Milano aims to shift the paradigm of youth engagement with technology, fostering a generation of conscious creators rather than passive consumers.

A Modern Approach to Digital Literacy

The initiative centers around a “learning by doing” methodology, implemented through ten experiential lessons. The primary learning space is located within the WAO | We Are Open – Romolo hub in Milan, with supplemental sessions held at the Google Italia Accessibility Discovery Center and the Apple Store Piazza Liberty .

Beyond Application Usage: A Working Methodology

UXforKids School Milano goes beyond simply teaching children how to use digital applications. The curriculum provides a practical working methodology applicable to everyday study. Integrating Design Thinking and the LEGO® Serious Play methodology, students learn to critically observe the world, solve complex problems, and organize information using visual maps – a technique designed to simplify learning and improve memorization .

Developing Essential Skills for the Digital Age

“The mission is to provide participants with the tools to navigate the complexity of digital with a critical spirit, transforming technology from a distraction to a creative and responsible resource,” states Gloria Chiocci, CEO and Founder of UXforKids. The educational path guides students from initial research to project presentation, cultivating crucial soft skills such as empathy, teamwork, and confident communication, even as enhancing each child’s creativity .

Partnerships with Tech Leaders

Outdoor lessons will include visits to the Google Accessibility Discovery Center, where students will explore accessibility issues and the role of technology in fostering inclusion. At the Apple Store Piazza Liberty, participants will engage in a Today at Apple session led by Apple Creatives, programming their first app and designing its logo or emoji .

Expert Mentorship

The mentor team, coordinated by Gloria Chiocci and the UXforKids team, includes Italian design and education professionals such as Riccardo Cambò (Breccia) Designer & Co-founder of Caffè Design, Paolo Capurso of ScuolaZoo, Riccardo Queri, a Product Designer, and Coraline Baiardelli, a Social Psychology and Certified Facilitator in LEGO® Serious Play .

Industry Support and Collaboration

The project is supported by Mitsubishi Electric, with partnerships from THEY, SNAP, and UXforFuture APS, all investing in the education of future generations . Mitsubishi Electric views this support as an investment in inclusion, diversity, and preparing young people for digital transformation .
