Uzbekistan and Egypt Plan Joint Working Group on Water Resource Issues
Uzbekistan and Egypt have agreed to establish a joint working group to strengthen cooperation on water resource management, according to the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Cairo, Mansurbek Kilichev. The initiative aims to facilitate the exchange of experience in irrigation management and water desalination between the two countries.

The Ambassador noted that both nations face common challenges, including the impacts of climate change and the need to ensure food security. He emphasized that collaboration in irrigation management and water desalination would be mutually beneficial. Tashkent has expressed readiness to share its water-saving technologies and adopt Egyptian practices for modernizing irrigation systems.
This development aligns with an initiative proposed by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to address regional water security issues, which has received broad support from countries in the region.
The working group will focus on practical cooperation, including the modernization of water supply, sewerage, and heating systems. Earlier discussions between Uzbek and Egyptian representatives, facilitated by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Cairo, explored joint projects in the Samarkand region involving companies such as Veolia and The Bell Group. These talks centered on improving system efficiency, promoting rational water apply, and attracting necessary investments for infrastructure upgrades.
Both countries are also engaged in broader efforts to enhance water and industrial safety. Uzbekistan has been working with international partners to strengthen protections against accidental water contamination and improve industrial safety standards related to water resources.
By forming this working group, Uzbekistan and Egypt seek to build on existing dialogues and translate shared interests into concrete actions that support sustainable water management and long-term resilience against environmental challenges.
