Surgery Follows Sölden Training Knee Injury
Canadian alpine skier Valérie Grenier has undergone successful surgery to repair an anterior cruciate ligament and a damaged medial meniscus in her knee, following training in Sölden. The procedure sidelines the World Cup athlete just as the 2026–27 season opens.
Grenier sustained the injury on the race hill in Sölden ahead of the opening weekend of the World Cup circuit. Medical evaluations confirmed the need for an ACL reconstruction alongside meniscus repair work.
Successful Procedure Completed at CEOM
Dr. Simard performed the operation at CEOM. Grenier reported via social media that the procedure proceeded without complications.
The great news is that everything went super smoothly, and I want to give a huge thank you to Dr. Simard and the incredible team at CEOM,
Grenier wrote on Instagram. Dr. Simard feels extremely confident in the work done and how everything went!

Recovery is already progressing into its initial phase. Grenier noted that she expects to begin bearing weight on the leg shortly.
Grenier Holds Six World Cup Podium Finishes
The injury interrupts preparations following a strong finish to the previous competitive year. Grenier closed the 2025–26 World Cup campaign with a giant slalom victory at the Finals in Hafjell, Norway, on March 25.
That win followed a third-place finish earlier that winter at Tremblant, which marked her first World Cup podium appearance on home snow. Across her career, Grenier has accumulated six World Cup podium finishes, including three victories.
| Year | Location | Event |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Kranjska Gora | Giant Slalom |
| 2024 | Kranjska Gora | Giant Slalom |
| 2026 | Hafjell, Norway | Giant Slalom World Cup Finals |
Consecutive victories in Kranjska Gora during 2023 and 2024 preceded her triumph in Norway last March.
Rehabilitation and Motivation for Return
Attention has now shifted entirely toward rehabilitation. Grenier expressed gratitude for the messages received from supporters since the injury occurred.
A big thank you to everyone for all the kind words, I’m truly feeling the love and appreciate the support more than you know,
she stated. I’m starting rehab with so much motivation and can’t wait to get back to doing what I love!
