It’s getting loud again in Rheinfelden’s Marktgasse: For the 25th time, on Thursday, February 12th, the AvD-Histo-Monte will be running from Rothenburg ob der Tauber via Freiburg (D) to Rheinfelden and on to Monte Carlo. Around 70 classic cars cross the border after two eventful days through Germany. In Rheinfelden, the teams are allowed to drive over the otherwise closed bridge and through the pedestrian zone. In front of the Rheinfelden town hall, participants receive a stamp from the Zähringerstadt in their driving booklet. The drive through is scheduled between 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The special vehicles for which a maximum model year of 1995 or older is required include, for example, an Austin Healey 3000 from 1965, a Lancia Stratos from 1981, a Renault 5 Turbo, a Porsche 914/6 GT or an Opel GT in rally trim. The oldest vehicle this year is a Jaguar XK 140 from 1956, this model has starting number 1 this year.
Highlight of the finale: The two-time rally world champion Walter Röhrl is also there, on the last day of driving he starts with a Lancia Rally 037. With such a vehicle, the native of Regensburg won the infamous Monte Carlo Rally for the third time in 1983. This year, Röhrl and owner Dirk Lührmann are once again driving in their own footsteps through the French Maritime Alps.
After this highlight of the tour through Rheinfelden, the route continues towards the home straight via St. Ursanne. On Saturday, February 14th, the last stage leads from Cannes to Monte Carlo, where the classic car rally ends after more than 2,000 kilometers. (mgt)
