Virginia SNAP Waiver Limits Unhealthy food Choices

RICHMOND, Va.- Virginia is one of six states approved for SNAP food-choice waivers by the U.S. Department of agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative.

The waivers, submitted by Hawai’i, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, will change the definition of “food for purchase” under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme (SNAP) starting in 2026.

U.S.Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the approval.

these new waivers expand on previously approved changes in Arkansas,Idaho,indiana,Iowa,Nebraska,and Utah.
