Virginia Dominates ACC Swimming Championships, Williamson Secures Silver

ATLANTA – The Virginia Cavaliers continued their strong performance at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, held Feb. 17-21 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. The Cavalier women currently lead in the team standings after winning three events on Wednesday, while the men are in 11th place.

Women’s Team Leads with Multiple Victories

The Virginia women’s team opened the night with a victory in the 200 Free Relay, with Bryn Greenwaldt, Claire Curzan, Anna Moesch, and Sara Curtis posting a time of 1:23.75. They continued their dominance with a strong showing in the 500 Freestyle, securing the top four positions and sixth place. Sophomore Katie Grimes repeated as the ACC Champion in the event, finishing with a time of 4:33.78. Senior Aimee Canny took silver (4:34.46), and junior Cavan Gormsen claimed bronze (4:34.99). Freshman Madi Mintenko finished fourth (4:36.91), and Bailey Hartman placed sixth (4:37.51).

Curtis and Williamson Earn Individual Medals

Freshman Sara Curtis won her first individual ACC title in the 50 Free, finishing with a time of 21.09. Sophomore Anna Moesch secured a bronze medal, finishing just .01 seconds behind the second-place finisher from Louisville.

On the men’s side, freshman Maximus Williamson earned a silver medal in the 200 IM, challenging Aresnio Bustos of NC State throughout the race. Bustos ultimately won with a time .39 seconds faster than Williamson’s finals time of 1:40.78, which broke Williamson’s own school record. Williamson had the fifth-fastest time in the prelims of the 200 IM.

Current Standings and Upcoming Events

The Cavalier women are currently in first place in the team standings, while the men are in 11th. The ACC Championships continue through Saturday, with prelims starting at 9:30 a.m. And finals at 5:30 p.m. Each day. Thursday’s events will include the 400 IM, 100 Fly, and 200 Free.
