I’m sure I won’t catch the experienced readers of Garage, they will no that it was no special limiter or racer, our seasoned fans will undoubtedly know that the wind is blowing from somewhere else. Adn that it is a unique conceptual piece, built primarily for exhibition purposes. Exceptionally, we will ride with such unique automobiles, the last time Volkswagen gave us such an possibility – as the only journalists from the Czech Republic. And thanks to the ID.Cross concept, I far surpassed the price tag of anything I’ve driven in my more then twenty-year career.
First T-Roc…
A wholly understandable thing. Not only as of the mentioned one hundred million sum, but also because of the technology, which is so, let’s say, raw… Although the ID.Cross Concept already looks about eighty-five percent like a production car, it doesn’t drive anywhere near like that. As we saeid right at the beginning, it is a show car, and it is mainly designed to present.
Even so, I was curious about the few meters, on the pier dangerously close to the sea (the car was insured, after the co-payment I was no longer drunk), thanks to the very winding route I was able to touch the work with the unusually shaped steering wheel, rather square than round. Of course,I don’t dare to make a final verdict after such a fleeting turn, but as a believer in the classic solution (why invent something othre than a round steering wheel),I certainly expected worse.
Volkswagen ID. Cross: A Return to Physical Controls
What we will see without a doubt in the series is a pair of displays, the smaller one with a diagonal of eleven inches, the larger one, thirteen inches, dominates the center of the instrument panel and belongs to infotainment. But below it, dear readers, focus your eyes and see a series of beautiful, classic ventilation buttons! It took a while, but it’s there! There are also normal buttons on the steering wheel, below it we find the alr

See that beautiful row of buttons below the center infotainment display?
And I wasn’t completely wrong, confirmed to me by Volkswagen’s Chief Exterior Designer for Europe, Stefan Wallburg. “The character of the fourth-generation Golf is certainly a car that we would like to approach with our latest models,” Stefan told me during a tour of the ID.Cross.Volkswagen calls the new style Pure Positive, and this electric concept is the first car created in this new design direction. Stefan explained the name in a more understandable way, at least for me. “We want our design to be easily recognizable and to some extent uniform. At least in the sense that every new Volkswagen is easily identifiable.” This aims to avoid the fragmented appearance of recent years, ensuring Volkswagens are recognizable even without the logo. If this aligns with marketing’s “pure positivism” and resonates with audiences beyond simply avoiding offense, it will be a success.
I was also pleased to see the classic door handles – emergency services will certainly appreciate them. “We were behind the dinosaurs when we stuck to the customary solution. And now other manufacturers are also starting to return to normal cranks,” Stefan assessed the current situation. If you’re planning a trip to your local Volkswagen dealership, you might want to hold off. The production version of the ID.Cross won’t be available untill 2027, giving us plenty of time for more detailed details about the technology. Currently, Volkswagen has only stated that the ID.Cross will be based on the MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive, a 155 kW electric motor, and a range of 420 km.
However, we’ve learned a few key details about the battery specifications from the head of Škoda, who shared some insights about the upcoming Epiq – the sister model to the VW ID.Cross. Klaus Zellmer revealed that these future electric vehicles from the group will come with…
