Grand Rapids area high school tennis features nine ranked teams this fall, highlighted by Forest Hills Northern checking in at No. 2 in Division 2. While many top competitors have remaining eligibility, 13 standout seniors are playing their final high school season, prompting a regional fan vote running through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, with results announced Monday.

Top Senior Singles Players Across Grand Rapids

Jenison’s Drake Apol holds an 11-10 record at No. 1 singles, securing four of those wins against returning state qualifiers. At Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Eli Betancourt holds an 8-15 record at No. 1 singles with five wins against returning state qualifiers. Noah Dapprich anchors the lineup for NorthPointe Christian, the state’s No. 7 team in Division 3, posting a 10-12 record against a schedule featuring nine losses to returning state qualifiers. Byron Center’s Terrence He moved to No. 2 singles behind sophomore Justin Karem after playing in the top spot for a Bulldog squad that earned Division 2 state runner-up honors last season. He boasts a 16-4 record for the fifth-ranked team in Division 2. West Catholic’s Patrick Latchana holds an 8-11 record at No. 1 singles, earning two victories against returning state finals qualifiers. Grandville’s Evan Mann navigated a demanding schedule at No. 1 singles, where 10 of his 14 losses came against players with state finals experience. Mann enters the final stretch with momentum, winning his last four matches, including a straight-sets victory over GR Catholic Central’s Eli Betancourt. Rockford’s Alex Moore holds a 7-15 record at No. 1 singles with five wins against returning state qualifiers.

Division Competitors and Singles Standouts

Jakob Rietema represents Forest Hills Central at No. 1 singles for the No. 8 team in Division 2, recording a 4-14 mark with three wins against returning state qualifiers. Unity Christian’s Tyler Singer brings a perfect 22-0 record at No. 4 singles to a squad ranked seventh in Division 3, following two previous seasons as a state qualifier. Greenville’s Marek Susta maintains a 12-9 record at No. 1 singles, including a 3-1 mark in River Cities Alliance competition. East Grand Rapids climbed to No. 7 in the Division 3 rankings with contributions from Conner VanDrunnen, who posted a 15-5 record at No. 2 singles, including eight wins against players with state finals experience. Holland’s Floyd Webb holds a 12-4 record at No. 1 singles, with all four losses coming against returning state qualifiers. East Kentwood’s Simon Wolters records an 11-2 mark at No. 1 singles, dropping matches only to Grand Haven junior Kyle Friggens and Hudsonville sophomore Gavin Luchies.
