Dutch Nationals, Including Influencers, Stranded in Dubai Amidst Regional Tensions

Several Dutch citizens, including well-known influencers, are currently stranded in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, due to escalating regional conflicts and subsequent flight cancellations. The situation arose following attacks on Iran and retaliatory strikes in the Middle East, leading to airspace closures and disruptions to air travel.

Escalating Conflict and Flight Disruptions

The crisis began after Israel and the United States launched a series of attacks on Iran. In response, Iran retaliated by attacking countries in the Middle East, targeting American bases. These events prompted KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to suspend flights to and from Dubai, leaving many travelers, including Dutch nationals, unable to return home.

Experiences of Dutch Influencers

Influencer Bo Wilkes, known as the “Real Gooische Mother,” is among those affected. She was in Dubai celebrating her parents’ 70th birthday when the conflict escalated. Wilkes described hearing explosions although at the beach and witnessing drones and rockets in the sky near the Burj Al Arab. She and her family are seeking a safer location.

Gio Latooy, another Dutch influencer, is also reportedly sheltering in Dubai due to the rocket attacks. Both Wilkes and Latooy shared updates on their experiences via Instagram.

Other Dutch Nationals Affected

In addition to the influencers, other Dutch citizens are also stranded in Dubai. Rapper Boef and Nesim El Ahmadi are also reported to be among those unable to leave due to the airspace closures. A family from Twente is stuck on a cruise ship, and a resident of Obbicht has reported challenges finding food as supermarkets experience empty shelves.

Current Situation and Outlook

The situation remains fluid as regional tensions persist. The closure of airspace continues to disrupt travel plans, and the safety of those remaining in Dubai is a primary concern. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and travelers are advised to follow official guidance and remain vigilant.
