Flood Watch Issued for Multiple West Virginia Counties

Charleston, WV – A flood watch is currently in effect for 25 West Virginia counties through Friday morning, February 20, 2026, as a weather system bringing the potential for quick-hitting rainfall moves through the state. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert, warning of localized flooding risks.

Potential for Rainfall and Snowmelt

Meteorologists predict strong thunderstorms could produce up to one inch of rain. This, combined with already high streamflows and potential snow and ice melt at elevations above 3,500 feet, increases the threat of overflowing streams and creeks according to the NWS.

portions of Kentucky and Ohio are also under a flood watch. Affected counties in those states include Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence in Kentucky, and Gallia and Lawrence in Ohio as reported by WCHS.
