Westport Post Office Manager Ger Dawson Retires After 45 Years of Service

After a remarkable 45-year career with An Post, Ger Dawson has retired from his position at the Westport Post Office in County Mayo, Ireland. His dedication spanned roles as both a clerk and in the sorting office, culminating in a pivotal role overseeing a major operational transition.

A Legacy of Service

Ger Dawson’s retirement marks the end of a century-long legacy as An Post separated its retail and delivery services. He was instrumental in the smooth relocation of delivery operations from The Mall in Westport to a new, state-of-the-art Delivery Service Unit (DSU) at the Westport Industrial Estate.

Overseeing a Major Transition

The transition overseen by Mr. Dawson impacted numerous local delivery offices, including those in Achill, Ballycroy, Louisburgh, Aughagower, and Killawalla, all of which relocated their sorting facilities to the new Westport DSU.

Positive Workplace Culture

Colleagues have consistently praised Mr. Dawson’s personal approach and the respect he demonstrated, fostering a positive and supportive work environment throughout his tenure.

Recognition and Farewell

Ger Dawson was presented with an An Post Cuchulainn Statuette by Westport Delivery Service Manager Ger Dawson in May 2024, recognizing 44 years of service to An Post. He also presented Sean McGing with the Cuchulainn Statue for his 44 years service to An Post in June 2024.
