Honda and Aston Martin Forge F1 Partnership for 2026

Honda will supply Aston martin wiht power units starting in the 2026 Formula 1 season, marking a new chapter for both manufacturers. This partnership comes after Honda’s decision to end its relationship with Red Bull Racing at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), emphasized Honda’s commitment to Formula 1, stating, “I think Honda probably can’t live without F1.” he highlighted the significance of the 2026 power unit regulations as a key factor in their return.

The new regulations, set to be implemented in 2026, will considerably increase the electrical component of the power unit. They mandate a 50:50 split between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric motor, with the latter’s output nearly tripling from 120kW to 350kW. Furthermore, the regulations require the use of advanced enduring fuels.

Watanabe explained that these changes align perfectly with Honda’s long-term vision for propulsion systems. “These regulations encourage a 50:50 output split between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor… Add to that the requirement to use advanced sustainable fuels, and this becomes very much in line with Honda’s philosophy on future propulsion systems.”

He also underscored the strategic importance of F1 for Honda’s technological development and brand image. “It also fits with our business orientation. The pinnacle of motorsport is the place to refine our technology, improve our technical capabilities and stand on a world stage that will allow us to showcase all of this. This is very important for the future of Honda.”

The partnership with Aston Martin represents a meaningful opportunity for Honda to continue its pursuit of innovation and success in Formula 1, leveraging the new regulations to showcase its expertise in both ICE and electric powertrain technologies.
