Katie Zacharia Steps Down as White House Press Secretary After Turbulent Days
Katie Zacharia has resigned from her position as White House Press Secretary just days after stepping into the role, faz.net reported. A high-ranking government official confirmed the departure to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur without providing specific timelines for her exit. Zacharia originally assumed the job on Monday, following the departure of Karoline Leavitt at the end of August.
The sudden career shift follows a tumultuous start that included an awkward first press briefing characterized by verbal slips and an abrupt conclusion after only a handful of questions. Media scrutiny intensified rapidly after her appointment when reports surfaced questioning her professional credentials, specifically regarding her repeated use of a lawyer title despite not having passed the relevant bar admission.
Conflicting Accounts Surround the White House Exit
Donald Trump offered mixed signals regarding the circumstances of Zacharia’s departure while speaking to reporters outside the White House. Trump stated that he suggested she reconsider taking the post, telling reporters, “I have to say to her, ‘Honestly, if I were you, I’d think about it again. Think about it, but I’d think about it again.'” He maintained that the final decision to stay rested with her, while noting that she had suffered greatly from what he termed unfair media treatment. In contrast, multiple major U.S. media outlets reported that the president had actually fired her.
The personal appointment came together swiftly last week. Zacharia recounted in an interview with the right-conservative broadcaster Real America’s Voice that Trump called her on a Thursday, prompting her to fly out to meet him the following day.

Future Staffing and Administration Press Operations Remain Unclear
The White House has not yet announced who will succeed Zacharia as press secretary or when a permanent replacement will take over the communications desk.
