Veterans Honored With Music and History in Wilmington
Southeastern North Carolina veterans are being honored with a weekend of music, history, and remembrance at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center, WECT reported.
USO Through the Years Opens Weekend Events
The weekend opens with “USO Through the Years,” a 1940s-themed show featuring songs, dances, and tributes to the performers of that era. Directed by Blake Carter and hosted by Kathy Enlow, the Friday night event runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Attendees receive a free swing dance lesson before the main performance and open dancing. Tickets cost $20 online, with all proceeds benefiting the Historic USO Building Preservation Fund.
World War II Memorabilia Display Explores Military History
A World War II memorabilia display curated by retired professor Cliff Tyndall is open during the weekend. The exhibit features uniforms, gear, and a field headquarters setup representing both the Pacific and European theaters. The display opens Friday, Nov. 6, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and continues Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lobby museum.
Salute to African American Veterans Closes Weekend Schedule
The weekend concludes after the Southeast North Carolina Veterans Day Parade with the 5th Annual Salute to African American Veterans. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the event honors Black veterans who died in 2026. Organizers will also share the history of Wilmington’s USO for Black service members and recognize veterans honored with tribute banners this year.
