Jakarta –
Nvidia graphics card users who have recently experienced an unstable PC or decreased game performance are advised to check whether they have installed the Windows 11 KB5074109 update. The January 2026 security patch is now also accused of triggering various GPU-related problems.
The update is actually part of Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday which brings over 100 security fixes. However, instead of being better, KB5074109 is actually said to be the source of new problems. A number of users reported that Nvidia graphics card performance decreased after the update was installed.
Complaints surfaced on Nvidia forums. Some users mentioned a decrease in performance of around 15-20 fps, while others experienced flickering, shadow artifacts, errors in frame generation, and other visual glitches when playing games.

Nvidia has acknowledged the report and stated that it is conducting an investigation. Nvidia administrators also advised affected users to try uninstalling update KB5074109 as a temporary measure. Meanwhile, Microsoft has not provided an official response regarding this GPU issue.
To check for newly installed updates, users can go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history. If you want to delete it, there is an uninstall option at the bottom of the update history page.
The KB5074109 issue adds to the long list of glitches emerging from the January 2026 update. This patch was also previously reported to trigger problematic Remote Desktop connections to Azure and Microsoft 365 services, reboot loops on devices with Secure Launch enabled, Outlook failing to open, as well as various display glitches.
Microsoft has released several unscheduled emergency updates to address some of the issues. More extensive improvements are expected to arrive via the February cumulative update, although several repair options are also available via the Microsoft Update Catalog, as quoted by detikINET from Techspot, Monday (9/2/2026).
Interestingly, not many similar reports have emerged from AMD GPU users so far. It’s unclear whether the next Patch Tuesday will restore Nvidia’s full performance.
This series of bugs has once again highlighted the quality of Windows updates in the last few months, which have triggered problems with connectivity, Blu-ray playback, localhost functions, and the recovery environment. Reports have even emerged that Microsoft is now starting to prioritize stability and performance over adding new features.
