For a large part of the connections offered, passengers have to wait for a transfer that can be as long as more than 20 hours.
The airline company Wizz Air comes with another attempt after a subscription to fly or low-cost business class. Via the WIZZ Link service, it offers connecting flights within one booking.
“WIZZ Link allows passengers to combine multiple Wizz Air flights into a single booking, opening up nearly 8,000 new route combinations across key hubs such as Budapest, London, Rome, Warsaw and Tirana. What previously required repeated searches and separate transactions can now be planned and booked in one seamless process within our ecosystem.” the carrier said in a press release.
For example, at the time of writing, WIZZ Link offers more than a hundred destinations from Prague available for one reservation with just one transfer. Such an offer, however, means that in many cases passengers have to wait over 20 hours for a connecting flight. So the question remains how attractive the service will be for passengers.
An example is the connection Prague – Košice via Rome (July 6) with a total travel time of 22 hours and 15 minutes, or perhaps Prague – Medina via London Gatwick (March 30) with a total travel time of 30 hours and 15 minutes.
However, the service has one major catch, it does not count on automatic transfer of checked-in luggage, and passengers must go through the check-in process again after arriving at the transit airport, including fulfilling any visa obligations.
“Flights booked through WIZZ Link are not connecting (connecting) flights. Therefore, upon arrival at the connecting airport, you must collect your checked baggage, go through customs and passport control in the transit country, and recheck yourself and your luggage for the next flight, including going through security and passport control again at the connecting airport. You must check in separately for all flights and meet the visa requirements of both the destination and any transit country’ specifies Wizz Air.
However, the possibility of additional transfer insurance can be an advantage. It is necessary to pay extra for this, but the price is in units of euros.
Wizz Air is introducing the service in cooperation with its partner Dohop, which, when using the ConnectSure service, guarantees that if you miss your transfer in the event of a travel disruption, it will rebook you on the nearest available flight to your destination free of charge. The company will also arrange additional matters, such as accommodation.
Detailed conditions are available on the Wizz Air website here and Dohop here. Tickets can be purchased on the WIZZ Link website here. In the past, Wizz Air already offered flights with a stopover in Abu Dhabi.
Competing Ryanair has already tried connecting flights on a similar principle, for example from Prague it was possible to continue via Bergamo. Among the low-cost carriers, easyJet also currently offers the service, on flights from Prague you can also transfer to connections of other carriers in London.
