Western Michigan Gymnastics Defeats Ball State, Sets Season Highs

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan University gymnastics team achieved a season-high score of 195.850 on Sunday, February 22, 2026, defeating Ball State University with a final score of 195.625 at University Arena. This victory marked Ball State’s first loss in Mid-American Conference (MAC) competition this season. The Broncos too recorded season-best performances on both beam and floor exercise.

Broncos Excel on Vault

Western Michigan started strong with a vault score of 48.850. Makenna King and Brook Gelesko both earned scores of 9.800. Isabella Ciolfi achieved a 9.775, tying for third place, even as Kennedy Cooper followed closely with a 9.750.

Bars Performance

Moving to the uneven bars, Makenna King, Reese Samuelson, and Julie Korfhage all tied for second place with scores of 9.750.

Season-Best Beam Routine

The Broncos distinguished themselves on the balance beam, posting a season-best score of 49.125. Julie Korfhage delivered a career-high score of 9.900, securing second place. This was the first 9.900 of her career and the highest beam score by a WMU gymnast this season. Milton followed with a 9.850, while Samuelson and Reilan Garvey each scored 9.800. Isabella Ciolfi contributed a 9.775 to the team total.

Floor Exercise Triumph

Western Michigan continued its momentum with a season-best 49.150 on floor exercise. Julie Korfhage and Brook Gelesko tied for first place with scores of 9.850. Korfhage’s score was a fresh personal best, and Gelesko achieved a score of at least 9.850 for the third consecutive meet. Milton and Molly Sabin tied for second place with scores of 9.825, with Sabin setting a new career high. Kennedy Cooper earned a 9.800, tying for third, and Isabella Ciolfi finished with a 9.750.

Next Competition

Western Michigan will next compete in a quad meet at Eastern Michigan University on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 6 p.m. The meet will also include Illinois State and Wilberforce University.
